MP demands tea trolleys for travellers

The Times, 28th January

Michael Fabricant, Tory MP for Lichfield, has tabled a motion calling for the introduction of tea trolleys at the airport. He hopes that the move would provide a welcome for weary travellers amid delays and immigration, arguing that ‘It would be a world first’ in air travel.

The MP added that ‘it wouldn’t do the Government any harm to compensate people for the long waits they’re now experiencing at passport controls’ and that getting back to the UK would be far less bleak if travellers were greeted ‘with a nice cup of tea’. The idea was suggested to Fabricant by Mark Price, the managing director of Waitrose and the pair proposed that tea ladies should be chosen for their cheerfulness.

While the Home Office has declined to comment, four other MPs have backed the motion. The airport operator BAA also said that it welcomed the chance to ‘improve the passenger experience’.
