Parisian students working the pavements

Numerous Parisian undergraduates are being forced into prostitution to pay for their higher education. According to one student union, around 40,000 French students are working as part-time prostitutes. The debate has been galvanised by the publication of a memoir, Mes Cheres Etudes, written by a 19 year old student ‘Laura D’. This book reveals how, when she was unable to finance her situation by working 15 hours a week in telephone sales, she answered an online advertisement for a ‘masseuse’. The French government has promised to improve the financial positions of its students.
